Hey Reader! I want to tell you something I don’t talk about enough. For years, I thought I ate pretty well. Breakfast was reasonable. Dinner was healthy. I wasn’t bingeing. I wasn’t eating fast food every night. By most people’s standards — including my own — I was doing okay. I ate clean. But I was gaining weight. Slowly. Consistently. Year after year. It took me a long time to figure out why. I felt like I was doing everything I should be doing. Here’s what was actually happening. I was skipping lunch. Not intentionally — I was just busy. Work was full-on, I had appointments back to back, and by the time I looked up it was 5pm and I’d had nothing since breakfast. Or on a good day, I’d grab a big granola bar and smoothie. Needless to say, I’d come home starving. And I mean the kind of starving where your body has completely given up waiting for you to feed it properly and has moved straight into survival mode. I’d walk through the door and head straight for the kitchen. Not to cook dinner — just to take the edge off while I cooked dinner. Cheese and crackers. Whatever was on the counter. A few bites of this, a handful of that. I didn’t think of it as eating. It was just… waiting for dinner. And then I’d sit down and eat a full meal anyway. What I didn’t understand then — and what I want you to understand now — is that my body wasn’t broken. It wasn’t betraying me. It was doing exactly what bodies do when you starve them all day. When your blood sugar crashes hard enough, willpower doesn’t stand a chance. Biology always wins. I was trapped in a cycle I didn’t even know I was in: Undereat during the day → arrive home ravenous → graze while cooking → eat a full dinner anyway → wonder why nothing was working. Repeat. For years. That cycle, slowly and quietly, contributed to 50 lbs of weight gain. Not from junk food. Not from a lack of discipline. From skipping lunch. So what actually fixed it? Not another diet. Not more willpower. Two simple shifts:
If you’re doing all the “right” things and still not seeing results — this might be worth looking at. Not because you’re doing something wrong. Because sometimes the thing that’s keeping you stuck is so normal, so everyday, that you don’t even notice it’s there. I didn’t. Until I did. P.S.
